The Sarah Jane Smith Board Game Well, it's getting very close to Christmas now, and if your family is anything like mine, by Boxing Day you'll be resorting to board games to pass the time in between napping and watching heartwarming family TV...Every year the same... every year your uncle trounces you at Scrabble, every year people start playing Monopoly and then get fed up and storm off when they're losing... But not this year! This year, you can play The Sarah Jane Smith Board Game! Guaranteed to start hardly any arguments at all! How do you play it, I hear you cry. Well, just follow these simple instructions: 1. Print out the following pages - they should come out right on ordinary A4 or equivalent: Game Board - Doesn't really have to be in colour, but isn't it pretty? Counters - You'll need to cut these out and possibly stick them onto card to make them sturdier. The white tabs underneath are to fold back to make them stand up! Wardrobe Counters - Cut these out too. Questions - Page One Page Two Page Three Page Four Page Five - cut out the cards. Forfeits - Page One Page Two Page Three - cut out the cards. 2. Gather together the following items: A dice (or die, if we're being pedantic...), A few sheets of blank paper, a pen or pencil, 2-6 players 3. Shuffle the Question cards and put them in a pile on the bit of the board that says 'Questions'. Shuffle the Forfeit cards and put them on the bit that says 'Forfeits'. Put the wardrobe counters on the bit that says 'Wardrobe'. 4. Each player must choose a counter - each counter represents a particular Sarah Jane outfit, and matches one of the sets of wardrobe counters. Make sure each player knows which wardrobe counters are theirs. All of the counters start on the square that says 'Go!' 5. The aim of the game is to be the first player to collect your entire outfit, that is, all of the wardrobe counters that match your counter. The way to win a wardrobe counter is to pass Go! - every time you go past, you can take another of your wardrobe counters from the wardrobe. 6. The youngest player goes first, and after that play goes clockwise. 7. For each turn, the player must throw the dice, and move the number of squares indicated clockwise around the board. If they stop on a question or forfeit, they must answer the question or perform the forfeit from the top card on the pile. If they do this correctly, they can throw the dice again, and their turn does not end until they fail a question or forfeit or land on a square without a question or forfeit. If they cannot answer the question or perform the forfeit, that is the end of their turn. 8. More about Forfeits - for a MIME forfeit, the player must describe a particular story to the other players using only their bodies, without speech or other language. For a DRAW forfeit, the player must draw a representation of a particular story, without writing any words. If the other players can guess what story they are describing, they have won the forfeit. For a 'Name a story in which...' forfeit, the player must name one story in which a particular event took place - the other players must decide whether or not they are correct. 9. The first player to successfully collect all of their wardrobe counters is the winner! Note: If you're very young and/or clumsy, please get someone to help you with the cutty-outty bits. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... |
