'Yeah, I'd like one, please,' you say. 'If it isn't too much trouble.'
'Oh, nothing's too much trouble for your first Christmas!' Sarah Jane says fondly. 'I'll get you one, don't you worry.'
You carry on putting up the decorations, and soon you forget all about the MegaGlobe.
When Christmas morning comes, you find out how much fun it is to open presents – you didn't realise there would be so many! Sarah Jane gives you lots, and then there are things from some people she once worked with at UNIT, and her friends Josh and Nat, and her cousin Brendan. You give Sarah Jane a present – you chose it all by yourself – and you feel incredibly happy when she exclaims over it and hugs you and thanks you, and neither of you can stop smiling.
The last present she gives you is the MegaGlobe, and you grin happily at her when you open it, even though you're not really sure why you want it or what it does.
'Shall we have a go?' she asks. 'I'd like to see what all the fuss is about…'
You agree, and take the silver ball out of the packaging.
'Says here to press the red button on the top,' Sarah Jane says.
You do it, and the thing pops open and turns into a little metal spider thing, with an attachment that looks like a pair of glasses.
'Then you put that glasses bit to your eyes, and it's supposed to do something "cool and awesome",' Sarah Jane says, doing that air-quotes thing with her fingers, a habit she's picked up from Clyde.
'It looks a bit scary…' you say, dubiously.
'Do you want me to go first?' she asks. 'Would that make you feel better?'
You feel a little silly, but you nod, and Sarah puts the thing to her eyes. For a moment her face looks strange, and then she smiles broadly, and puts the MegaGlobe down.
'They're right, that is cool and awesome!' she says. 'It's not scary, Luke, I promise. You try!'
You look at the thing. It still looks a bit threatening to you.
Sarah Jane says to trust your instincts, and right now your instincts are telling you to leave this thing alone, even if Sarah says it's all right.
Sarah Jane has gone to all the trouble of getting the MegaGlobe especially – you'll feel awful if you don't at least try it.
