'No, that's all right, Mum,' you say. 'I'm sure whatever you've got me is great. I don't need a MegaGlobe.'
'You can always have a go on mine,' Maria chips in.
'Oh, thank goodness for that!' Sarah Jane says. 'I wasn't exactly relishing the thought of going out to the shops again this late in the month…'
You carry on putting up the decorations, and soon you forget all about the MegaGlobe.
When Christmas morning comes, you find out how much fun it is to open presents – you didn't realise there would be so many! Sarah Jane gives you lots, and then there are things from some people she once worked with at UNIT, and her friends Josh and Nat, and her cousin Brendan. You give Sarah Jane a present – you chose it all by yourself – and you feel incredibly happy when she exclaims over it and hugs you and thanks you, and neither of you can stop smiling.
Maria and her dad come over for Christmas lunch, and you have your first taste of turkey, sprouts, and Christmas pudding. Christmas crackers are new, too, and you and Maria laugh yourselves silly over the stupid jokes and the paper hats that look so ridiculous on everyone.
After you've eaten, everyone helps to clear up, or at least to hide the evidence in the kitchen until someone can be bothered to load the dishwasher.
'So, what now?' asks Sarah.
'I'm sure there's a nice old film on the telly,' Alan suggests.
'Oh, Dad, that's so boring,' Maria says. 'Come on, Luke – let's leave the grown-ups to themselves – come over to mine, I'll show you my MegaGlobe, it's wicked!'
Really, you'd rather stay here. You like it when everyone's all together, and besides, you're pretty full from lunch and it seems like an awful lot of effort to walk all the way over the road.
Maria really seems to want to show you this MegaGlobe thing, and if she says old films are boring then maybe she's right. You'll go with her.
