Sarah Jane Adventures: Invasion of the Bane ![]() Story: Invasion of the Bane, Sarah Jane Adventures Pilot Episode Synopsis: Maria Jackson and her father move into their new house on Bannerman Road, and bump into their new neighbour, Sarah Jane Smith, who seems a little unfriendly. Later that night, Maria is amazed to see Sarah Jane talking to an alien in her garden, and in the morning she wonders if she imagined it. The next morning, Kelsey, another girl who lives on their street, takes Maria to a local factory that makes a new soft drink, Bubbleshock, and while they're getting the tour, Sarah Jane is busy sneaking in, getting caught, and interviewing Mrs Wormwood, who seems to be in charge, and who Sarah rightly suspects to be an alien. When Kelsey uses her phone, she sets off alarms and disturbs the Bane Mother, a weird monster living in the ceiling. In all the commotion, Maria and Sarah escape with the Archetype, a teenage boy being kept at the factory. When Sarah takes the boy home with her, she realises that he knows nothing about the world, and has only been alive a matter of hours – the aliens, who call themselves the Bane, grew him. One of the Bane comes to Sarah Jane's house to kill her, but she defeats it with some spray she keeps in her attic. When Kelsey goes up there, she explains to the children about her life, defending the Earth from evil aliens. Realising that the Bane are putting a bit of themselves into every bottle of Bubbleshock, Sarah calls up Mrs Wormwood on Mr Smith, her alien supercomputer, and gives her an ultimatum – leave Earth or face the consequences. Mrs Wormwood uses the Bane in Bubbleshock to take control of everyone who has drunk it! Sarah Jane and the children rush to the factory, and the Archetype uses Sarah's alien communicator to blow up the factory and end the Bane's influence on the people of Earth. Later on, Sarah decides to adopt the Archetype, and calls him Luke. But there’s strangeness to be found wherever you turn. Life on Earth can be an adventure too. You just need to know where to look.’ - Sarah, to Maria and Luke • ‘Hi, hello there, nice to meet you, I’m Alan, Alan Jackson.’ ‘Uh… I hope you’re not going to make too much noise – it’s just I work from home and I don’t like to be disturbed.’ ‘Okay, nice to be made welcome…’ ‘Sorry. Sarah Jane Smith.’ - Alan and Sarah • ‘That’s the mad woman. Always racing about.’ ‘She’s a bit glamorous, though! What does she do?’ ‘Journalist or something…’ - Kelsey and Maria discuss Sarah • ‘I wasn’t breaking in, I was just trying to reach someone in charge.’ - Sarah explaining herself to Mrs Wormwood • ‘Miss Sarah Jane Smith certainly makes her presence felt.’ - Mrs Wormwood, on Sarah • ‘Drink Bubbleshock, Miss Smith. Drink deep.’ ‘Mrs Wormwood, I’d rather die.’ - Mrs Wormwood and Sarah • ‘What exactly are you suggesting, Miss Smith? That Bane originated in outer space?’ ‘Of course not. That would be ridiculous.’ – Mrs Wormwood and Sarah • ‘I don’t care what people think of me. Never have. I just want to find the truth.’ ‘At such a cost. I take it, Miss Smith, you’re single.’ ‘Yes, I am.’ ‘No children?’ ‘No.’ ‘Such a wasted life.’ - How little you know, Mrs Wormwood… • ‘Oh, and by the way – what planet do you come from?’ ‘Nice try.’ - Sarah and Mrs Wormwood • ‘Find that woman! And this time, kill her properly!’ - Mrs Wormwood on Sarah • ‘Now listen to me, Maria, my life is dangerous. And, rule one, I don’t put anyone else in danger. Especially not a kid.’ ‘I’m not a kid.’ ‘Maria, just go back home. You watch telly, you do whatever it is you do, you just live your life as normal, you forget any of this happened. Have you got that? You stay away from me, for your own sake.’ - Sarah and Maria • ‘Get upstairs!’ ‘But we’re not allowed!’ ‘I’m allowing you, now go!’ - Sarah and the Archetype • ‘First the children, and then you, old woman!’ ‘Hey, less of the old!’ - An alien disses Sarah • ‘Do you still believe me?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Really? How come?’ ‘Because you’re bonkers but I don’t think you’re a liar.’ ‘Oh well, that’s nice to know… no… except about the bonkers bit…’ - Sarah and Maria • ‘It’s just you, though? On your own?’ ‘The government knows all about aliens – and then there are secret organisations dedicated to finding them, but they tend to go in all guns blazing. I just think there’s a better way of doing it.’ ‘Then how’d you get started?’ ‘I met this man. A very special man, called the Doctor. And years ago, we travelled together.’ ‘In space?’ ‘Space, and time. Then it came to an end. And suddenly, I was back to a normal life – electric bills, burst pipes, bus tickets and rain.’ - Maria and Sarah • ‘Bye-bye, K9 – good dog!’ ‘Affection noted, Mistress!’ - Aaaaw, how cute!! • ‘Mrs Wormwood.’ ‘Oh, very clever.’ ‘Thanks for the assassination attempt!’ ‘My pleasure. The next one will involve harpoons.’ - Sarah and Mrs Wormwood • ‘The people I fight have plans and weapons, but I don’t. It’s what makes me different.’ - Sarah • ‘Maria, two types of people in the world. People who panic – and then there’s us. Got that?’ ‘Got it.’ - Sarah and Maria • ‘Well, there was only ever one man for me, and after him, nothing compared. When I was your age I used to think, oh, when I’m grown up, I’ll know what I want, I’ll be sorted. But you never really know what you want – you never feel grown-up, not really, you never sort it all out. So, I thought, I can handle life on my own. But after today – I don’t want to!’ - Sarah, on life Wardrobe Appreciation Outfit One, we only see a short glimpse of, as Sarah sends a lost alien back home. It's hard to tell whether it's pyjamas or just chilling clothes, but it looks nice and there's a lovely cardigan too. ![]() The second outfit, to cut a long story short, ROCKS. First we see it with this fabulous coat over the top: ![]() When she takes the coat off, we get a look at the rest. A stripy dress and a fabulous cardigan, tights and, of course, great boots. ![]() The cardigan has really pretty buttons on the sleeves... ![]() As usual, tricky to get a really good look at the shoes, but you get the idea: ![]() Oh, and, the bag is fantastic too: ![]() The third outfit we see in the last few minutes of the episode, another chill-out trousers, top and cardigan affair. Very pretty. ![]() It's nice to know that we can rely on Sarah to look just as awesome in this new series as she always did! The Panel Said... Style Watch: Cadi: Her clothes were normal but still awesomely kooky :D Her boots were mind-blowingly awesome, so I'm glad they kept that continuity :P Her cardigan was amazing, what with the buttons on the sleeves and all! I liked her outfit at the very end too - I envy her collection of cardigans! 10/10 Llin: That dress was fabulous. The boots were amazing. But the best thing was that jacket. It was gorgeous! I hope we'll be seeing more of it! 10/10 paranoidangel: I loved her casual wear and her coat is great. As is the cardigan and the boots. Not quite so sure about the dress but she looks good enough to pull it off. 9/10 Sarah_JaneSmith: I love that dress and cardigan! she is so hot! i dont care if she's nearly 60! 10/10 Sarah Watch: Cadi: She was brilliant. A right mix of heroic, angsty and crabby! I love that she was so rude at the beginning, and then her talk to Maria about staying away for her own good made me well up, as did her talking to K9!! As for her driving a bus into a wall - well, that's just pure genius. Russell T Davies, if I didn't already love you, I sure do now! 10/10 Llin: She kicked so much ass! She did everything, she was heroic, she was funny, she was sweet! Yay! 10/10 paranoidangel: OK, so it's the kids that save the day in the end, but Sarah does all the hard work first. 9/10 Sarah_JaneSmith: She is AWESOME! oh and adopting the archetype is so sweet, loved the references to harry and the brig. 10/10 Story Watch: Cadi: Brilliant! I mean, obviously aimed at kids, but the script was so well done and the characters were great - Kelsey was annoying but in such a hilarious way. It was much funnier than I expected and really touching at some bits. I hope we get to see lots more of Mrs. Wormwood because Samantha Bond was chewing the scenery in the best possible way :D 10/10 Llin: Edge of my seat, the whole way. This was great. Not a weak moment in the whole thing. The kids are all fab, too. 10/10 paranoidangel: I really enjoyed it. I just wish we'd seen more of Sarah but then it was aimed at kids and did introduce her quite well. 10/10 Sarah_JaneSmith: Sonic lipstick, k9, mr smith, luke, busses through walls, Bane, cool cars, this is the best thing i have seen in ages!!! I cant wait for the proper series to begin! 10/10 Bonus Pictures ![]() Sarah fends off an alien attacker ![]() The Bane Mother ![]() The fascinating Mrs Wormwood ![]() Sarah has pictures of Harry and the Brigadier in her attic! ![]() Adorable Maria and her adorable Dad ![]() GROUP HUG!! ![]() Yay!!! < Previous Next > |
