A Sarah Jane Adventures Board Game Is your life lacking adventure? Is the unpredicatable summer weather leaving you frustrated? Are you suffering, like so many others, from Sarah Jane Adventures withdrawl?Never fear, soon it will be autumn again and our show will return to our screens, but in the meantime, you can print out and play this Sarah Jane Adventures board game. Guaranteed to be almost as good as, if not better than, actually watching the show!* Here's what you need to do... Getting Ready: 1. Print out the two halves of the board: HERE and HERE. They should overlap to fit together so that you end up with something looking like a wheel with eight spokes. Stick the whole thing onto a piece of card, if you like. 2. Print and cut out the ASSET CARDS and the Task Cards, HERE and HERE. Put the cards in two piles, one for Assets and one for Tasks, near the board. 3. Print and cut out the COUNTERS, and fold them at the tabs so that they can stand up. 4. Find a die. 4. Find a pen and paper to keep score. 5. You're ready to play! Playing the Game: Moving Around the Board: 1. Each player chooses a counter and a circle to start on. This can be any circle, so long as no other player is on a circle in the same spoke of the wheel. 2. Movement can be either up or down a spoke, but a player cannot retrace their steps in the middle of a turn. Ie, if you throw a six, you must take six steps away from where you were and wait until your next turn to go back the direction you came. If you hit the end of a spoke before you use all of your steps, you can then turn around and come back. The only way to move across to a different spoke is to go down to the centre first, and then continue up the new spoke. The centre itself does not count as a space. 3. Only one player can be on any particular spoke at a time. So, a player coming down a spoke to the centre of the wheel, can move into a different spoke only if there is not already another player there. The Aim of the Game: 1. The object of the game is to complete Tasks, in order to gain points. For each task you complete, you get one point. You need to collect Assets in order to complete Tasks. 2. You can collect Assets in several ways - if you land on a Collect an Asset circle, you may take the top Asset from the pile, unless they have all been taken already. If you land on a Take an Asset circle, you can take any Asset you like from one of your fellow players. There is also an opportunity to gain an Asset on the !!!! circles. 3. When you land on a Complete a Task circle, take the top card off the pile of Tasks. If you have an Asset which allows you to complete this task, take one point, and put the Task and the Asset you used back on the bottoms of their piles. If you are unable to complete the Task, put it back at the bottom of the pile. CLUE: ![]() Places on the Board: 1. If you land on a Lose an Asset circle, you must choose one of your Assets to put back at the bottom of the pile. 2. If you land on a circle marked !!!!, you must throw the die to choose an outcome: 1. Get a free turn 2. Miss a Turn 3. Take an Asset from another player 4. Lose on of your Assets 5. Complete a Task 6. Throw again 3. Circles like Miss a Turn, Gain a Point, etc, are hopefully self-explanatory... Scoring and Winning: 1. Naturally, the winner is the person who completes the most Tasks and gets the most points. 2. You can either set a number of points to be reached, and see who gets there first, or you can put a time limit on the game and see who has the most points at the end of that time. Notes: 1. When printing out the board and pieces, everything should come out the right size if it's made to fit an ordinary piece of printer paper. 2. This game is still new and untested, so feel free to play around with the rules and see what works! Let me know how you found it, whether you had any problems, if the rules weren't clear, what you liked about it, so that I can adjust accordingly! 3. Have fun! *Claims relating to the level of fun of the game are based on anecdotal evidence only and are not guaranteed to be true. |
