You can't be a hero like Sarah without making a few mortal enemies bent on your destruction... here are Sarah's top ten! 10 - The Wirrn ![]() Never before or since has bubblewrap painted green been a more menacing spectacle. One of Sarah’s most memorable villains in terms of design, the Wirrn wanted to take over Space Station Nerva and all of the thousands of hibernating humans there, and it was only Sarah’s quick thinking and bravery that prevented them. 9 - Linx ![]() Sarah’s first villain, Linx was a dastardly Sontaran who introduced guns to the middle ages and stole scientists from the twentieth century. He thought that Sarah, as a female, was beneath his notice – a mistake many have made to their cost. Sarah soon sorted him out, with a little help from the Doctor. 8 - Sister Helena and the nuns ![]() Helena and her spooky sisters seemed to relish manhandling, tying up and blindfolding Sarah in their attempt to force her to become the new host for their mistress the Gorgon. They would have done it, too, if it wasn’t for that meddlesome Maria. 7 - Doctor Solon ![]() Solon cared very little about Sarah either way, except when he could use her to get to the Doctor (and his head), or as an impromptu and unwilling lab assistant. He thought he could just lock her up and forget about her, especially when she was suddenly blinded, but he had reckoned without her smarts and determination, and she soon showed him! 6 - Odd Bob the Clown ![]() He was also known as Mr Spellman and the Pied Piper, but it was in his guise as Odd Bob the Clown that this extraterrestrial being frightened Sarah Jane the most. Overcoming her lifelong phobia of clowns, she managed to defeat him and save the children he had stolen, including Luke. 5 - Hilda Winters ![]() Hilda Winters was like the anti-Sarah – a capable and forceful young woman, but evil. She and Sarah disliked one another from the moment they met, but that was nothing compared to what was to come next – Sarah was captured, tied up and nearly killed by Hilda’s Scientific Reform Society. Sarah came out on top that time, but Hilda wasn’t content to let it lie, and plotted for years to ruin Sarah’s life. 4 - Mrs Wormwood ![]() Luke Smith has two mummies – and Mrs Wormwood is the evil one. Sarah foiled her plot to take over the world and stole her Archetype – and thought she was killed in the ensuing explosion, but no such luck, as Mrs Wormwood returned to steal Luke back and use him in her evil scheme.Again. But once more, she underestimated Sarah. Is she gone for good this time? 3 - The Crimson Chapter Of all the myriad people wanting Sarah dead, the Crimson Chapter are perhaps the scariest. Believing Sarah to be the Herald of the Apocalypse, and thinking that her murder could bring about the end of the world, they sent assassin after assassin to kill her, and more than one of them got pretty close to it. 2 - The Trickster ![]() The Trickster thrives on chaos, and that’s why he’d love to see Sarah bumped off, because without her the world would descend into madness! It’s sort of flattering, really, but it does mean that, once a season, she has to put up with the major emotional upheavals his attempts to remove her from history invariably cause. 1 - Davros ![]() Davros, one of the most terrifying and cruel villains the galaxy has ever known, met Sarah Jane Smith twice. Sarah witnessed the birth of the Daleks, Davros’ evil creation, on Skaro, and many years later when they met again on Earth, he still remembered her. On both occasions, she helped to foil his plans. |
